CHARLOTTE presents an interesting opportunity: She was built new by Rockport Marine in the mid-1990's to an exceptionally high standard, at which she was maintained until very recently.
During the summer of 2019 she sank at her mooring and the jib, jib club, and cockpit sole lift-out were lost. Subsequently she was hauled and allowed to dry out as evidenced by the gaps between planks and deadwood timbers in the photos. The varnish on the coamings and seats is still in good condition, but the sheer planks and toe rails will require stripping and refinishing.
The crew at Artisan Boatworks are standing by to bring CHARLOTTE back to "as new" condition: a straightforward job that will entail splining a few bottom seams, replacing the stern post, stripping/refinishing the varnish, and replacing the pieces that are missing.
CHARLOTTE can be back in action this spring and given her recent construction, promises her next owner a lifetime of reliable service.
CHARLOTTE is gaff-rigged and comes with a Triad trailer that is in excellent condition.
For those not familiar, the first H 12 1/2 footer boats were built in 1914 by Herreshoff Mfg. Co, of Bristol, RI, from the original design of Nathanael G. Herreshoff. The unique popularity and longevity of this design has continued for 108 years. She is still considered to be one of the finest, if not the finest, small sailing yacht designs ever created.
