One of New Zealand’s most successful 40 foot racing yachts in the last 8 years, Icebreaker has really been the benchmark boat.
Built in 2011 by McCongahy Boats in China. Foam glass hull with twin carbon wheels and carbon mast, ensure a lightweight and powerful arrangement, but with plenty of durability for offshore racing.
Many regular upgrades from new including a new pedestal install in 2016 and new deep/light keel fin in 2017 have kept this boat ticking.
As any Ker 40 owner would attest, these are wonderful all-rounders, that can be sailed by Corinthian crews, right the way up to full professional and the end result is the same - Simply great fun sailing and likely at the front of the fleet!

Rig
ICEBREAKER is fitted with a twin spreader carbon rig from Hall Spars NZ, new in 2014.
Built to go both inshore and offshore, the rig is configured with twin masthead halyards, as well as fractional halyards to allow for a mix of sails, as well as incorporating a masthead halyard lock to help reduce mast compression.
She is also supplied with a Hall Carbon boom, capable of reefing and a sprung loaded vang system to help with sail handling when reefing.
As with all Ker 40's, they are fitted with a fixed bowsprit, which has been recently painted and strengthened for more durability offshore.

A simple interior layout makes this boat completely fit for purpose and a fully optimized structural design using advanced Finite Element Analysis Techniques, had meant the boat is tough and durable for ocean racing, whilst being light enough to fend off the competition on the inshore platform as well.
