Built as a pleasure craft in the style of a traditional Scottish MFV Banamhaighster is well presented having been professionally maintained and upgraded since new. Benefitting from never having been commercially worked she is a unique find.

In the current ownership BANAMHAIGSTER has extensively cruised the waters around Scotland and ventured as far North as the Arctic circle on a 9 week expedition voyage. She has proved to be a robust and reliable boat capable of looking after her crew in the open ocean. She would be ideally suited for use as an expedition motor yacht or comfortable live aboard.

Fitted out in the current configuration below decks by the yard she if fitted out to a high standard for the style of vessel. The attention to detail in the original build is evident throughout; for example ventilation holes at the top and bottom of all hull lining panels ensuring the boat can breathe. Her extensive inventory includes highlights such as:

  • Larch on oak hull construction built to the same scantlings as a working MFV.
  • Copper sheathed hull since build.
  • Alloy deckhouse.
  • Ketch rig with steadying sail and genoa.
  • Kelvin T4 Marine diesel engine, only 2320 recorded running hours.
  • 2000 mile range under engine.
  • Beta Marine 6.5Kva Genset.
  • Onboard fuel polishing system.
  • Hydraulic windlass and hydraulic capstan.
  • Three independent heating systems.
  • Master cabin aft with en-suite heads and shower.
  • Three berth cabin forward with en-suite heads and shower.
  • Furuno and Garmin navigation instrumentation.

Benefitting from wintering ashore in a shed during the current ownership BANAMHAIGSTER has enjoyed the attention of professional shipwrights and engineers as part of a fastidious maintenance regime. Now being prepared for launching late in spring she is available for immediate viewing ashore.

DESIGNER HISTORY:

George Watson was born in the city of Glasgow in 1851, the son of Glasgow doctor he grew up in the heart of the Clydeside maritime industry. During his childhood a passion for yachting developed and as soon as possible after completing his apprenticeship he formed the world’s first dedicated yacht design office; still in business today.

Over the years the company of G.L.Watson has only had 6 managing directors, each bringing their own unique skills to the companies offering. Under the leadership of William Smart who lead the company between 1958 and 1968 the company ventured into the design of MFV’s for the Scottish fishing industry. During what was a boom period for the industry the company became highly respected for their designs with all yards in Scotland producing G.L.Watson designed vessels.

MANUFACTURER HISTORY:

The Jones of Buckie yard was synonymous with the building traditional timber-built commercial vessels for the Scottish Fishing Industry, launching thousands of new hulls since the company’s formation in 1918. The Jones built MFV’s having a loyal following in the fishing industry the yard gained a reputation for building high-quality robust vessels capable of working for many decades in the most arduous conditions.

Alongside, the production of commercial vessels the yard also built a number of small craft in the same traditional style for pleasure use including their own range of ‘Spey Class’ motor sailors and the last two traditional Loch Fyne skiffs.
