Pre amble

The Albin Express is a small cruiser-racer, offering high performance sailing with basic accommodation. The design was conceived as a small racer that could also be cruised around the coast. An unusual boat in England, they are popular in the Baltic, with some raced as a one-design class.

Designed in 1978 by Peter Norlin, who was responsible for the very successful Scampi series of racers, as well as many of the high quality Sweden Yachts fast cruisers, the Albin Express was intended as a high performance small one-design racer. The design is often compared to the well known J24, but the Express is less beamy and has more ballast, making her less dependent on crew weight for stability. The Express also has much more usable accommodation than the J24.   Around 1,100 of these boats have been sold, although most of these have remained in Scandinavia, where they are still a popular club racing class.
