SV Amarula is an exclusive, 18.4 meter luxury Crowther catamaran designed to explore the furthest corners of the world. She was sailed by her captain owner and his wife since launch and operated as an expedition, research vessel and luxury skippered charter (NEVER BARE BOAT CHARTER).
This catamaran has been built in accordance with the Australian Uniform Shipping Laws Code to carry 30 day passengers and 12 overnight passengers + 2 crew.
She is beautifully fitted out with the comfort of the long distance traveler in mind. She offers many luxuries, whilst providing her owners and guests with the opportunity to travel to exciting places that relatively few people get to visit.
She has been designed specifically for blue water cruising and has all the comforts of home. She is self-contained with a large fuel capacity, generous battery supply, solar and wind power,
'Amarula' sailed from Australia to Tanzania, where she spent a number of years as a luxury skippered charter cruising the African coastline. She left Dar es Salaam in 2009 to sail to South Africa, where her owners spent 2 years mostly in Knysna and Saldanha Bay.
In 2012 they explored Namibia and crossed the Atlantic Ocean stopping over to visit St. Helena and Brazil before arriving in Grenada, where they spent the 2012,2013,2014 & 2015 hurricane seasons. Each winter Amarula traveled up the Caribbean chain as far as the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico (Culebra). Her owners' favourite spot being Frederiksted on the west coast of St. Croix.
After a month haul out to prepare and paint her ready for her long passage, the final leg of her circumnavigation began in October 2015. Her owners left Grenada for Trinidad, then sailed west to the ABC islands, followed by Colombia and Panama, before transiting the Panama Canal in January 2016. This year they have crossed the Pacific Ocean back towards Australia. Amarula is now in Tonga, preparing to leave very soon for Fiji. From there she can easily be sailed to Australia, New Zealand, anywhere in the Pacific, South East Asia or wherever her new owners prefer.
Consequently, her present owners are looking for a very special person/ family to buy their lovely home of the past 15 years. As part of the package they are prepared to negotiate delivering her and, as the original builders, are willing to assist in preparing her for a new lease of life, according to her new owners' specifications. If you feel that SV Amarula would suit your requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us and we can plan for her future.
Amarula can be sailed, controlled and navigated from the interior (wheelhouse). She is equipped with hydraulic winches making rope handling a breeze and can easily be operated by a couple in spite of her size. In fact, both her owners have sailed her alone on occasion.
Her accommodations consist of 2 x large double cabins with ensuite head and showers, another 2 x king size cabins with handbasins. In addition there are occasional single berths in the wheelhouse to keep company the skipper on watch, and in the saloon.
There is a shower and head at the entrance to the saloon from the immense cockpit, which is perfect when entertaining outside. In addition the cockpit has a large extendable table and both fixed and moveable seating to comfortably accomodate plenty of guests. There is a deck shower aft and a handbasin in the cockpit, plus plenty of room to relax in a hammock or move the table aside for your very own yoga deck!
The two transoms have been elongated for performance and to point higher into the wind, as well as provide a perfect landing place when coming out from a swim or disembarking from your sea kayak! Amarula has always been cherished as the home and the livelihood of her owners, a sea captain and his wife. The captain is also a naval architect and shipwright.
