Hull and deck constructed of GRP mouldings. Hull originally finished in blue gelcoat, topsides renovated and hull re-sprayed with new decal applied in 2010. Deck moulding finished in white gel coat with teak laid decks.
7/8ths sloop rig by Selden, all spars of silver anodised alloy construction with all standing rigging of 1x19 stainless steel wire and roll swaged terminations. Backstay includes isolators and backstay tensioner. All rigging screws fitted with alloy tube type anti chafe covers. Spars include Selden spinnaker pole stored on stanchion mounted storage chocks and gas strut type kicker. Forestay fitted with Furlex roller reefing system for roller reefing Genoa. Mast has in-built Selden in-mast reefing system for mainsail with all halyards and control lines lead aft to clutches and electric winch in cockpit.
The contemporary feeling deck layout with heavily curved coachroof moulding it nicely contrasted by the traditional teak laid deck and combined with the striking navy blue hull give the boat a very striking appearance.
A short stainless steel tubular bowsprit extends forward from the stem with the customary pulpit step for Scandinavian style bow to mooring, the self stowing anchor and secondary bow roller are also built into the bowsprit. The roller furling system is secured to the deck at the stemhead and access to the bowsprit is by going around the forestay.
The coachroof moulding rises up immediately aft of the short foredeck, the coachroof moulding finished with non-slip textured panels moulded in to the finish. Side decks run the full length of the boat with stout stanchions and stainless steel guard wires running between the pulpit and pushpit, stanchion gates are provided midships port and starboard. A short aft deck spans the full width of the boat aft of the short coachroof section aft of the cockpit.
Located centrally in the boat the cockpit gives a commanding view of the boat forward while the deep moulded coamings and wrap around windscreen forward provide crew with security and protection from the weather. The moulded helm pedestal is located to the aft end of the cockpit space with the stainless steel leather covered wheel mounted in its aft face and the Raymarine plotter on top, easily visible and accessible to the helmsman. A folding cockpit table is mounted on the forward face of the pedestal. Blue Max benefits from a cockpit cover extending over the full cockpit and effectively turns the cockpit into additional living space in poor weather.
Storage on deck is provided in a series of lockers with other features such as cleverly built in fender storage in the pushpit adding to the capacity.
Maxi Yachts are known for the quality of build and this is evident throughout the interior of 'Blue Max'. The joinery work is of the finest teak and construction is of the highest quality with all wood work finished in a rich satin varnish contrasting nicely against the blue alcantara upholstery. Light streams into all cabins through well positioned portlights and deck hatches.The layout of the boat creates a welcoming and comfortable living area with good headroom throughout and all berths of generous proportions, ideally suited to extended periods of living aboard.
Forepeak cabin provides and V-shaped double berth of generous size, comfortably accommodating two adults. Sufficient standing room is provided at the aft end of the cabin for standing and changing etc. A great selection of storage space is provided throughout the cabin with large bin type lockers beneath, a choice of closed or open fronted lockers outboard, overhead and a small dresser unit on both port and starboard sides aft of the bunk.
A large open plan saloon occupies the central section of the hull with a standing head height throughout the space of almost 2m. The port side of the space has two large single person armchair type seats with a large chart table mounted centrally between. A large single drop leaf table is mounted on the center line of space with a wrap around U-shaped settee providing seating around the table. This settee converts to a well proportioned double berth when required. Again the designers have provided a practical selection of storage throughout the saloon with lockers overhead and bin lockers beneath.
The L-shaped galley is sighted aft of the to starboard with the work surfaces extending aft along the starboard side into the passageway leading to the aft cabin. Again the fit out is of a good quality and the galley well appointed to cater for a full crew through extended periods of living aboard. Galley inventory includes twin stainless steel sinks with hot and cold faucets, fully gimballed gas cooker with crash bar, fridge with freezer box and storage in the form of drawers and cupboards.
Better described as a stateroom the aft cabin offers a real owners suite with a huge amount of room provided within the cabin. A large double bunk of more than 2m in length is sited to port. A large open space occupies the central portion of the cabin with a single bench settee running along the starboard side of the cabin, the settee can convert to a large single berth when required. A mixture of storage is provided again around the cabin in a mixture of hanging lockers, shelved lockers and drawers. The aft cabin has private access to the heads via a separate passageway on the port side the cabin
A cavernous heads compartment is located to port of the companionway steps opposite the galley. Finished in a white easy clean moulding with solid teak fiddles and sole gratings. The compartment is split into two separate areas with the shower occupying the aft section and the marine heads, sink and vanity unit the forward section.
Volvo Penta MD22L engine located in dedicated full sound insulated engine space beneath cockpit sole. Access to engine space provided via large removable panel in passageway to aft cabin. Engine space is of good size and access to engine and gearbox for routine maintenance and servicing is good. Sail drive hull diaphragm replaced in 2010, engine and systems maintained professionally during current ownership.
