Colvic Victor 40 built in 1999 by Colvic Craft in England. Renowned as safe sturdy and excellent sea keeping yachts and ideal for blue water cruising or as a liveabord with a large aft owners cabin and ensuite.

Commissioned in 1999 after a three year build, the yacht spent the first four years in a marina in Spain. It was the last of this model produced by Colvic Craft. She has been bought in 2004 by his previous owner who have spent the intervening years untill 2014 living aboard her in the Mediterranean.I bought her in November 2014. Due to health issue I must sale her.
The hull is unique. It has a factory fitted swim platform rather than a flat transom, the only one of it's kind. This is a must in the Mediterranean as stern to mooring is the norm. Running a line to the shore is also much easier, as is getting in and out of the dinghy. It is also fitted with a new dive ladder suitable for fins. The bow has a factory fitted Vetus bow thruster, again a must when you have high free board and brilliant for steering in reverse.
The Lofrans Windlass (refit 2015) shares the same 200 Ahr batteries in the bow. 80 meters of 10mm chain is attached to a new and genuine 60lbs CQR anchor. We also have a heavy Delta, a Bruce and a fisherman's kedge on 50m of rope. We have relied on the CQR as it has never dragged. Plenty of chain is the answer.
The interior joinery, bulkheads, cupboards, wardrobes and flooring were done mostly by Colvic Craft and some fitting out was by the original owner. Teak and marine ply are used throughout. The interior layout is unique, featuring two full sized cabins and a large galley. The forward bulkhead is below the main mast so from this point the forward cabin extends, with six foot headroom.
The saloon has raised seating affording great views of 360 deg. Unlike early versions of this model, she does not have the inconvenience of a second steering position on the starboard side, instead we have a navigation table and swivel chair making passage making in rough weather very comfortable.
Internal steering is controlled by the ST6000 auto helm, very powerful and 100% reliable. Numerous cupboards and draws are also on the starboard side before the 220v fridge and the 3kg washing machine just below the companion way steps. Navigation/radar is all Raytheon ST with an additional Garmin plotter. I also use Open CPN on a Panasonic Toughbook. An Icom M601 DSC takes care of the VHF with an Icom hand held for dinghy work etc. In the saloon we have a 47cm flat screen Tv to watch DVD's on and a new car type stereo that takes USB and Aux input.
The Volvo Penta MD22 is below the lifting saloon floor and can be accessed from all sides. Servicing the motor is very easy and oil changes are painless. The spin on filters are easily reached, as is the water separator. Parts for this engine are available world wide. The motor has done 3070 hours so is just run in. It starts instantly, runs very smooth and does not smoke.
A new raw water sea-cock and impeller were fitted in July 2012 as part of the extensive maintenance work undertaken prior to visit to the Red Sea that year. The stern gland was replaced, as was the rudder stock seal when she was ashore in Alanya, Turkey where the survey was carried out. On board we have spares for all the pumps including the two Jabsco toilets.(new were fitted in 2015).
The spars are Selden with in mast reefing for the main and slab reefing for the mizzen. A furlex roller takes care of the 150% genoa. The standing rigging is all 10mm and 8mm, very strong and over engineered. New genoa and mainsail were fitted in June 2014 and are designed for heavy weather conditions. The cruising chute was new in 2010, from Dolphin Sails and makes downwind sailing much easier.
As mentioned, we have a 3kg washing machine, an absolute must in hot countries where you change clothes and bedding regularly. We also have Microwave but this needs shore power to work. The 220 fridge runs off the inverter when we are off shore. We carry enough gas to last six months. Water capacity is 130 gallons, balancing the almost equivalent weight of diesel on the opposite side (100 gallons) . The water is in a heavy duty Tech Tank and the diesel in a one off stainless steel tank. We also have a 120 litre black water holding tank and a 20 litre grey water tank. A 35 litre boiler supplies hot water (engine or 220v).New pressure water pump 2015.
While out in Preveza a Farrow system sand blasting were done, Should you be unlucky and foul the prop the Mermaid Rope Cutter will chomp through most ropes. The anode on the propeller shaft was replaced in 2012.
Engine The ubiquitous Perkins, repainted green and called a Volvo MD22. Simplicity and reliability has endeared this engine to car,van and boat manufacturers alike. This motor starts on the button (100 A batterie), does not smoke and uses no more oil than it should. It was maintained by the previous owner, a qualified engineer. Running at 1750 revs, we travel at about 5kn and use 2.8 liters per hour depending on sea state and hull cleanliness. Access to the engine is from all sides, making servicing and cleaning very easy. A new cambelt was fitted in February 2014 as well as a full engine service. A new full engine service has to be done when returning to water.Construction Typical of Colvic's principal of building strong boats, this Victor is no exception. It's only when you try and bore a hole for a skin fitting, you realize just how well built these yacht are. When Surveyed in July 2012, no issues were found by the surveyor. During it's five weeks on the hard in Alanya Turkey, the rudder was removed and the stock seals replaced as was the prop shaft seal. All necessary work was undertaken before a trip to the Red Sea including servicing/replacing the sea cocks, anti-fouling, making a new boarding ladder suitable for diving fins, replacing the bilge pump, cleaning and polishing all the gel-coat and lots of other jobs that were not on the list!
Behind the companionway steps, a passage leads through the rear shower/head to the port side of the rear cabin. The starboard side is accessed through a door on the right side. A double bed sits central, under the cockpit sole with a 500mm Lewmar hatch above.Sails & Spars Selden masts with in mast furling main and slab reefed mizzen. All stainless standing rigging. Furlex 300S roller Forestay. Selden Rod Kicker.
