With one of the most innovative, practical and well-appointed interiors to be found in a yacht of this size, the 45's accommodations are focused on both the requirements of extended cruising and a comfortable lifestyle when living aboard. Two large double staterooms, well separated for privacy and each with its own head and shower, combine with an expansive central living area to provide a gracious setting for entertaining as well as cruising with family and friends.
A feeling of bright, open spaciousness and a natural "flow" throughout is conveyed immediately upon entering below decks. The large galley, convenient to both the salon and the cockpit, yet out of traffic, wraps around and aft to starboard.
Immediately forward is a separate navigation station. This well-organized area features a leather armchair that swivels and adjusts on a recessed cabin sole track, a wide nav table with hinged top, a stowage tray below and ample electronic panels.
Additional storage cabinets and a draining wet locker outboard combine to make this area both convenient and functional. A slip-resistant sole is provided in the galley, companionway, nav and head areas for secure footing and easy maintenance, while the salon and staterooms have varnished teak and holly soles.
A teak grate at the base of the companionway is provided with a recessed lift-out dust bin for housekeeping convenience.
The spacious main salon features full-length settees port and starboard, bookshelves and cabinets outboard of both settee backrests and a large quick-folding dining table stowed against the starboard salon bulkhead fronting a bulkhead mounted bottle and glass rack.
The owner's stateroom forward spans the entire beam of the yacht, featuring a large double berth offset to starboard with easy access along its entire port side, A bureau with generous storage bins, a large cedar hanging locker, and deep storage drawers round out the thoughtful amenities.
Forward of the owner's stateroom is the spacious and private forward head which includes a large wraparound countertop with an oval polished stainless steel sink, storage cabinets above and below, full mirrors port and starboard as well as a separate vanity table with hinged top storage tray. The luxurious shower area includes a large teak seat, pull-around curtain and bulkhead mounted shower unit.
The roomy aft stateroom, with private access from the companionway area, is equally inviting. A bright and airy environment is ensured with three opening ports and an overhead hatch. A comfortable double bed, cedar-lined bureau compartments, hanging locker. dressing seat and conveniently placed reading lights make this an inviting suite for guests or crew.
The aft head is easily accessed from either the aft cabin or the main salon. With its wide teak shower seat and curved backrest, large wraparound vanity, oval polished sink, teak framed mirror and pull-around shower curtain, it provides particularly nice facilities for guests and general use as a day head.
Amenities below deck include a Hella Fan package throughout, window shades for all ports, lee cloths in the salon and forward cabin, a 2010 new custom mattress in the owner's cabin and a 2014 new holding tank for the forward and aft heads with a new macerator for overboard discharge.
Topsides the layout provides safety and security as well as comfort. The spacious cockpit features long, contoured seats, Captain's upholstered helm seat, instrument pedestal, fresh water shower, an insulated beverage locker, locking seat hatches with access to a deep storage locker to starboard and a storage tray to port, recessed winch handle pockets and two covered line bins for storage of sail control lines. The raised bridgedeck, locking companionway boards, and large cockpit scuppers help ensure safety at sea.
Full length handrails, double lifelines and recessed fore and side decks with raised bulwarks provide secure footing when underway. The integral bowsprit/anchor platform provides quick access to ground tackle. A premium console mounted rack and pinion steering system, jointly designed and developed by the Edson Corporation and Island Packet Yachts provides smooth, sensitive and responsive control and rugged reliability, which has proven its superiority over other wheel steering systems over hundreds of thousand miles in every imaginable condition at sea.
Integrated into the custom steering console are the single lever engine control, custom grid compass and hinged cockpit table.
The cutter rig is manageable and versatile. Both the genoa and self-tailing staysail are fitted with roller furling systems. All necessary control lines, including the mainsail reefing system, are led aft allowing routine sail handling from the comfort and security of the cockpit.
The keel-stepped double spreader rig provides superior mast support while enhancing performance. The ability to achieve excellent windward performance in a breeze is provided by the easily driven, long waterline hull form with its high resistance to heel and leeway. Three manageable sails allow a small crew to handily set a variety of well-balanced combinations over a wide range of conditions.
The Island Packet 45 offers the best of the features which have built Island Packet's reputation for excellence in cruising yacht design and quality. Its exclusive "Full Foil Keel" serves as the foundation of the Island Packet concept and unifies the performance of modern hull and foil designs with the superior seakeeping, comfort and safety of a traditional long keel. This exclusive design adds numerous benefits for the cruising sailor: superior protection from damage or fouling for both rudder and prop, immensely strong integral hull and keel construction, and moderate draft with exceptional stability.
The hull of the 45 is built of solid triaxial laminate, providing the highest level of impact and puncture resistance and over twice the tensile strength of conventional woven roving laminates. Island Packet's exclusive "PolyClad" hull gel system features a 10-year limited warranty against osmotic blisters.
The deck is cored with Island Packet's exclusive "PolyCore", an extremely tough inorganic matrix of glass microspheres and resin impervious to rot and delamination, eliminating the deterioration associated with conventional deck materials.
Easy access to every part of the engine and related equipment is provided through hinged side panels and fore and aft covers. A molded engine bed with integral drip pan combines with fastidious mechanical, electrical and plumbing detail to make this machinery space attractive, functional and reliable. Extensive sound reduction measures include lead-lined foam insulation and gasketed doors.
All tankage is centrally located under the cabin sole, maximizing stowage elsewhere in the yacht, minimizing trim changes with varying tank levels, and adding to the overall stability of the yacht.
