GENERAL

FRP Boat, Fractional Sloop Rig. Forestay and Inner Stay plus Storm Stay. Roller Furler Genoa. Running Backstays. Aluminium Mast. Modified specifically for Double handed yacht racing which she handles well but also raced as fully crewed boat in Club Windward Leeward type races. She is British Registered and carries a current Endorsed IRC Certificate.

The boat was raced Double Handed in 2007 Melbourne Osaka Yacht race and places 2nd in Division. The present owner Sailed the boat from Adelaide to Osaka Double handed in 2012. The boat handled light winds and 45 knots squalls just as easily and the owner felt safe and supported by the boat at all times. The boat entered and won the Double Handed division of the 2013 Kobe - Yokohama 333nm race and placed 2nd in the Okinawa - Tokai 720nm race in 2014.

The boat was built and launched in 1986. Underwent a major reform in 2002 with addition of Forward and Aft Waterproof Crash Zones. The 2007 refit included new Dog House, Plumb Stem taking it to 12.0 meters and Fin/Bulb Keel, Inner Stays for Number 3 Jib and Storm Jib. The 2002 and 2007 modifications made the boat an exceptionally easy to manage Double Handed Racing Yacht. In 2012 one further refit included a full engine rebuild, fitting of new Navigation station, New Icom VHF, Icom AIS, Iridium Satellite Phone, Inverter, 17" Computer Screen.

The new keel moves the original draft of 2.0 meters out to 2.9 meters. It is constructed of an iron blade of 600 kgs with a lead bulb of 1400kgs. The lead bulb is moulded over a T section bottom end of the casting. The only way to separate the blade from then bulb is to melt it off. Inside the boat the keel is fitted into a keel box which in turn is strutted to dog house providing a very secure keel which distributes any sudden shocks into the dog house.

The boat is in good condition. Simple. Strong. uncluttered.

As far as a sailing boat goes Hull, Engine, Rig, Sails and lines all in good condition. Electronics are in good condition or near new.


2007 STRUCTURAL MODIFICATIONS.


Cut off the old house at deck level. Built a new epoxy Ocean racing house and tied the house into the boat with integrated carbon fibre unistraps. The house and keel box now provide a very strong centre to the boat. It is windowless and accepts pretty much any wave over the top. It has no sliding hatch and the dodger section allows us the height we need to pass through he companion way. A clever companionway door has been designed as a permanent fixture. The door folds down at three points and at each point can be secured. The boat remains dry inside under almost all conditions.

A new bow stem was designed and added to the boat. Once again epoxy and carbon fibre unistraps were used to fabricate and tie the new stem to the boat. The stem added 3 foot to the LWL and today the LOA and LWL are the same. The new bow also provides a second Crash Zone.

A new bulb keel was designed. Within the design concept is "on the rocks" thinking. Rather than build the new keel with a "keel plate" Tom designed a Keel box. The forward and aft sections of the keel box are tied into the deck head via substantial struts. This provides more strength to the coach house again, better distributes "hobby horse" stresses created between mast and keel when pitching through waves and allows the entire boat to absorb any shocks to the keel rather than rip out the keel plate. This extra strengthening / safety precaution was seen as a good idea due to the number of boats that had hit whales and lost their keels in recent years. Naturally it would also be most helpful should one happen across a coral reef on the way up past the Great Barrier Reef.

 

INTERNAL.

Inside the layout is Spartan and as such very easy to move around. It does not feel cramped for a racing boat. Beyond the forward bulkhead is a huge empty space. Light filters into this space via a large square hatch. The 2007 refit fabricated a dam around the bow hatch and then added a carbon fibre laminate over the acrylic hatch. This makes the hatch very water / wave resistant and you can jump up and down the hatch without worry of breakage. With the companion way and forward hatch open there was plenty of natural light and a very comfortable air flow through the boat.

There is a two burner metho MiniMax hanging above keel box.

There is a good deal of under swab storage along both sides of then central cabin.

Aft of the companion way we have the 2GM Yanmar engine space, wiring for 4 batteries in place with all 4 batteries running along side the engine bay. 2 AGM batteries are supplied with boat. The engine was fully overhauled in 2012. The wiring was fully refurbished in 2007 and maintained by a fastidious sparky. All wiring on the boat is incredibly robust. The sparky "Andy" is actually dual qualified as an RF engineer. His speciality being HF radio. The unit is so well tuned and powerful that this boat was the official "at sea" radio centre for the 2007 M2O fleet.

Both aft quarters offer a decent berth come Crawl space with enough open storage to store permanent crews private things.

Interior lighting is all fluro tubes except for navigation snake light.

ON DECK.


All Sheets and Halyards Dyneema.

Six new Anderson Stainless steel winches were fitted new for the M2O 2007. 4 x 46s and 2x 41s. Beautiful winches very kind on lines. Total replacement cost AUD 14.000.

The Bow Sprit was built in 2015.

All deck fittings Winchard or Ronston. Both makers expensive and good.

All stanchions and safety lines and standing rigging were fitted new for 2007 M2O.

Lazy Jack system and Reef Bag both in place and very strong.

 

 


2012 Refit.


1. Built new composite rudder.
2. Repainted entire boat interior.
3. Rebate and Alan key bowsprit.
4. Fitted two burner Alcohol stove with Gimbal.
5. Fabricated and fitted two clear (see fuel level) FRP fuel tank. 70 litre or greater. 
7. Cut out portion of locker space and fabricate new sole for the Navigation area. providing central seating position and leg room.
8. Relocated HF radio mount. 
9. Fitted new internal deck sole. 
10. Fitted Danbouy. 
11. Tidy up on paintwork.
10. Replace traveler compass with new Plastimo Contest and added two new Silva to Companionway Bulkhead.
11. Fitted interior lighting. Include new Red / White lights.
12. Rig boat for sailing. All required gear in good working order.
13. Replaced fabricated stainless fitting the "deck tidier" fitting at mast base.
14. Check all electrics.
15. Fit three "current" fire extinguishers.
16. Fit 4 operational bilge pumps. include sea cocks as required. One can be operated from above deck.
17. Fitted new engine covers. 4 sides.
18. Reconditioned engine.
19. Clean up "skin" on forward hatch.
20. Fitted and test auto helm.
21. Fitted and test New VHF radio and two antennae
22. Fitted and test all navigation lights.
23. Fabricated new companion way stair section.
24. Fabricated new Navigation table and navigator seat.
25. Fitted chart plotter.
26. Fitted battery / power manager.
27. Tested and ensure correct function all fitted electronics.
28. Fitted new boom vang and boom strop.
29. New manual hand pump flush toilet.
30. New mouldings to protect instrument wiring at companionway exit.
31. Re-Fitted stanchions and lifelines at deck.
32. All wiring secured and sightly.
33. Lee sheets fitted.
34. Fit and test all Navigation lighting.
35. Emergency navigation lights fitted.
36. All sheaves, blocks, stoppers and tackles serviced.
37. New Masthead antenna and wiring.
38. New Exhaust system manufactured and fitted.
39. Engine controls water tight. No leaks via control.
40. Improved method to secure each panel of companion way hatch as we fold it down. And strong fix in fully open position. ISAF Cat One Compliant. 
41. Couple of extra interior storage areas.
42. Portable sail numbers.
43. Emergency steering
44. Jackstays, Clipping Points and Static Safety Lines in compliance with ISAF cat. ONE.
