From the Owner.
Elethea is a 1983 Beneteau First 38.
Good things include new high spec direct drive autohelm, six sails incl. racing Norlam, bimini, davits, re-engined 2001. She is tired down below and deck/cockpit need work.
No fridge No cooker.
Suit cruiser on a budget who wants to upgrade or budget minded Speedfreak who wants to win regattas.
This is an opportunity to pick up a 40ft production yacht which needs some TLC for few $'s.
Elethea is a sound boat, no osmosis, rig is old but solid, keel bolts replaced.
A fast new rudder fitted three years ago.
She is the shoal draft (approx 5'8") version, which is an ADVANTAGE both re. getting in close to anchorages etc. AND when trying to go to weather.
FROM THE OWNER.
Wiring and plumbing replaced 2003. Good cold water pressure system throughout the boat.
Water tanks good. New SS diesel tank in cockpit locker.
Clean toilet. Good large cool box. Alcohol stove only, no gas.
This is a single aft cabin version and has good berths/foam cushions throughout.
Lighting, some LED, and 12v outlets throughout.
Good double galley sink. Two handwash basins, one forward, one aft.
Inside shower in what was the forward heads, and transom shower outside.
Wife and I regularly live aboard for short periods, eg two-week cruises.
Race crew often opt to live aboard rather than going to motel ashore etc..
engine hours meter, currently reads 756 hours,
>>> She sails very well indeed.
FROM THE OWNER":
Re-engined in November 2003 with new Vetus M4 17A 122A. 42 HP 4cyl with ZF "M" gearbox and Flexofold folding propellor, all supplied and fitted by A1 Marine in Jolly Harbour.
Shaft seal replaced in 2007 with new Volvo seal.
The drive system is well maintained and fully servicable as I write, driving the boat at 6kts. Engine hours are unknown.
The boat is used six months of every year for club races and short cruises. During the down season, she is stored out of the water and drive train fully "winterised"and serviced. I estimate engine hours AROUND 800
1 Engine starts easily, no smoke. Inspection invited, Rig
New mast and re-rigged Dec 1997 by Peake Yacht Services in Trinidad. I have a paper copy of the "post" survey by Bill Wray, Yacht Consultant, Professional Captain. Recently, rig surveyed by Ashley Rhodes of A&A Rigging in Antigua 28/12/2012/.
The report includes "... no issues mast boom furler .... standing rigging in very good condition .... chain plates and other fittings in good seaworthy condition".
The running rigging is excellent, many new halyards etc..
Sails North Norlam fully battened main - 2009 Undersize (no reefing necessary) main. Fully battened. 2014 Racing blade (106%) by North 2011
No 2 (128%) racing headsail by Crusader.Kevlar sandwich construction. Servicable Cruising genoa (135%). Fair condition.
Heacy cruising genoa Yankee working headsail, fair condition
Various twin headsails used for racing
In short, this is an old boat and tired cosmetically. She is 100% sound and ready to sail - no osmosis, replaced keel bolts, rebuilt rudder (new bearings, new blade), sound rig, many sails, some of which are good. She has a nice bimini and davits.
