SONG OF JOY is a 1982 Tatoosh 42 designed by Robert Perry, renowned for his many "performance cruising" designs. Laid out below for comfort during long stays on board, the Tatoosh 42 features substantial storage space, accommodations for seven, and two heads, one with shower. The boat has undergone extensive renovation and upgrading in the recent past at the cost of several thousands of dollars.
A partial list of the work includes: new running rigging, spreader boots, tri- color, anchor light, windex, hailer, tv antenna, mast boot and terminal block with with ring terminals at the base of the mast. All new fuel injectors, fuel lines from the injector pump, heat exchanger cored and cleaned, new raw water pump, strainer and hoses, and new bilge pump. New Lewmar windlass, stereo, faucets, and cushions and a new headliner for the complete interior of the boat.
The deck received special attention: all teak and fastenings were removed, the deck was vacuum bagged to remove any moisture, the holes were filled with epoxy, gunwales were cored, epoxied and fiberglassed, all deck hardware was removed, old holes filled with epoxy, drilled and wetted out to prevent moisture intrusion, and new teak was epoxied to the deck and painted with AwlCare. Portlights were removed and powder coated and the holes for the portlights back filled with an epoxy filler.
Unfortunately, the cabin house did not receive the same thorough attention as the decks and subsequently has been found to suffer from what appears to be fairly substantial moisture intrusion.
In the meantime the owner's plans have changed. She no longer intends to go sailing and doesn't want to invest any more money in a boat she's not going to use.
So, SONG OF JOY represents an opportunity for a buyer interested in owning a proven offshore cruiser at a discount, using his skills to remedy the problem, and putting the finishing touches on a lovely boat while creating market value for himself.
Regarding market value, there are currently three Tatoosh 42's listed for sale in the U.S. at an average asking price of $103,000.
