La Mer is a 39’ New Zealand-built Cavalier 1980 sloop…a great boat, a good buy, a storied history! She was designed by Bob Salthouse and built by Cavalier Yachts, a partnership between Salthouse and Peter K. Smith. Before being sailed from New Zealand to California, La Mer won the Two-handed, North Island New Zealand race in 1983. A proud display of her accomplishment is on the plaque in the beamy 11’1” salon. Well-equipped for blue water crossings, La Mer was sailed single-handed by the current owner countless times in the Channel Islands, to Catalina, and around the Southern California Coast. She has four previous owners including the current owner who has owned and sailed her the past 14 years. La Mer is beloved and well-cared for. She parts company with her current owner only due to “aging knees” that demand a move to power.
