CARA is a one-owner Cape Dory 36, rare in today's market. She has cruised extensively from Canada to the Bahamas over the years, and has received continuous updating by her knowledgeable owners. She is fully equipped for extended living aboard, including a wind generator, solar panels, large battery bank, full cockpit enclosure, and heating systems to name a few of her features.
Cara has a beautiful cabin that has been highly upgraded from the standard Cape Dory 36 layout. First, the teak woodwork has been varnished and has been well cared for. The cushions have all bee replaced with attractive Ultra-Suade fabric covers. The owners have modified numerous areas in order to access as much storage space as possible, as they have spent several winters aboard cruising to the Bahamas.
The forward Cabin has received a unique alteration which includes a bureau / desk and numerous lockers to starboard, and a single berth to port. The Desk easily converts to a workbench, as there is a vise mounted on the underside of the removable top.
The head area is next aft, to Port. Granite counters have replaced the original Formica laminates. Hot and cold pressure water at the sink as well as a seawater pump. There is an opening port and a dorade ventilator for ventilation, a telephone type shower system, and the marine toilet.
Across from the head are two large lockers. These have been altered from the standard hanging lockers to now include shelves and other better storage conveniences than hanging lockers allow for.
The main cabin has settee / berths port and starboard, with the port berth able to slide inboard to form a double berth. Excellent storage is found outboard of each berth by way of deep shelves and 3 storage lockers. A large custom dining table of solid teak is mounted on the cabin sole and has leafs to reach each settee. There are 7 opening ports throughout the main cabin and galley area for excellent ventilation. Additionally, there is a large Bomar hatch above and a dorade vent.
The galley is aft to port, and is a "U" shape configuration which is always best for offshore cruising. A double SS sink is in the forward counter area and is served by hot and cold pressure water, a manual cold water faucet, and a seawater faucet.. Amidships is a Non pressurized alcohol stove with an oven, set in gimballs. In the aft counter is access to a large ince box which has a Seafrost engine driven refrigeration system. A 700W microwave is mounted out board of the ice box. There are excellent lockers for dishes, cookware and stores throughout the galley area.
To starboard of the companionway is a large navigation table, and displays of electronics. Aft, and forming the seat for the nave table, is a roomy quarterberth.
