The accommodation offers 4 berths in 2 cabins and is attractively finished in a traditional style with approximately 6'1" headroom. Kantara has a non-standard layout for a Barbary Ketch offering a more suitable galley for offshore sailing, greatly improved storage and increased comfort and dining space in the saloon at the sacrifice of the forward berths.
FOREPEAK: Large storage area for sails and other bulky items.
HEADS: Separate compartment to port with a marine toilet, wash basin and stowage areas with a large hanging locker opposite to starboard.
SALOON: Settee berths to either side of a dining table with folding leaves, beneath berth storage and numerous lockers.
GALLEY: Aft to starboard and equipped with a Plastimo Neptune gas cooker with 2-burners, grill and oven, stainless steel sink, fridge and stowage. Cutlery and crockery included.
CHART TABLE: Aft to port with electrical distribution panel, chart storage and locker.
AFT CABIN: Two large single berths with vanity unit between and excellent stowage in various lockers.
GENERAL EQUIPMENT: Mahogany and teak cabinetry with cream vinyl headlinings. Teak and holly soleboards in the saloon with carpet in the aft cabin. Sage green upholstery with cream curtains. Pressurised hot water system throughout supplied by a calorifier with immersion coil. Stainless steel holding tank.
EXTERIOR: Centre cockpit with wheelhouse shelter and fully enclosed awning, bench seating to port and starboard, two good sized cockpit lockers and two roof lights with blinds.
Located beneath wheelhouse sole, Mercedes OM 636 Mk II 4-cylinder 42hp diesel engine. Freshwater cooled via heat exchanger. Single lever controls with electric start. Shaft drive to fixed 3-bladed propeller. Full engine instrumentation.
The engine looks to be in very good cosmetic condition, has proven to be very reliable in current ownership and had a full service in 2014.
5 x 12v Batteries charged via engine alternator. Shorepower system with ring mains, Sterling 40amp intelligent battery charger and immersion coil for water heating. Electrical distribution panel. Full cabin lighting.
The wiring was all checked and rewired where required in 2004.
Ketch rig. Sparlight gold anodised aluminium masts and booms mounted in tabernacles. Stainless steel standing rigging (inspected and new cap shrouds fitted 2005). Terylene running rigging. Round boom roller reefing mainsail and slab reefing mizzen. Headsail furling system. 2 x Gibb sheet winches. 2 x Gibb mast mounted halyard winches.
Barbary Ketch moulded by Gardas Marine Limited in 1977 and fitted out by FC Mitchell & Sons in 1978 to a design by Walter F. Rayner. White GRP hull, pale blue superstructure and deck with grey Treadmaster non-slip on deck and coachroof. Hull epoxied, believed to be in 2005. Long keel with encapsulated cast iron ballast. Wheel steering to keel hung rudder. Self-draining centre cockpit. Semi-enclosed wheelhouse.
