She was a winner the minute she came out of the mold. She is a well-built, legendary cruiser/racer with spacious accommodations and storage, built in Holland to Lloyd’s of London’s standards (the highest and best there is) and was commissioned at LeComte’s American yard in New York and finished in the highest quality materials . Her performance under sail is fast and well mannered.
The LeComte 38’ has become somewhat of a “cult boat” with enthusiastic and knowledgeable sailors, worldwide and this rare and hard to find “YAWL RIG MKII”, is the most sought after of the LeComte family of fine yachts. Traditionally oriented yachtsmen will appreciate the special character “MAGIC CARPET” offers and should call right away for an appointment to see her.
A beautifully maintained example of the handsome LeComte Northeast 38, “MAGIC CARPET” is fast and stiff to weather, a legendary beauty, designed to sail, and she will take you far and wide in great comfort and safety as you embark on your long dreamt of cruising adventure.
Her long overhangs and low freeboard gives the LeComte Northeast 38’ gorgeous lines while providing a very stable platform while underway. She has a deep forefoot to avoid pounding and the substance to shoulder through heavy seas.
LeComte is well known for their quality of construction. Few boats are as carefully and well put together as this venerable classic, the LeComte MKII, 38’ yawl.
If you want to fall in love all over again….”MAGIC CARPET” is the one for you!!

The interior is light and airy and inviting with a very traditional appeal and is finished in beautiful (and hard to find anymore) teak, and the teak and holly sole, has been TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY REBUILT. EACH AND EVERY JOINT, EACH SPLINE SEPARATED FROM EACH BOARD, CLEANED THEN RE-GLUED. SOME SPINES HAD TO BE MADE. THEN THE ENTIRE FLOOR WAS SANDED, FILLED AND REFINISHED. It was a work of artistry AND LOVE.
Starting forward is a chain locker. Next aft is the v-berth stateroom with insert filler piece cushion, which pulls out to provide wider berth. and there are storage drawers below the berth and a large hanging locker to starboard. An overhead hatch and opening ports add light and Ventilation to this space. To port are several drawers with a shelf
Next aft to port is the head with a manual marine toilet which is plumbed to a holding tank with a Y-valve for overboard discharge. Lockers and drawers provide storage. Opening port provides light and ventilation.
Directly across from the head to starboard is a full length wet locker, followed by a lowboy with storage under and behind.
The Main Salon has straight settees to port and starboard that slide in for wider berths. Pilot berths are located above and outboard, with 3-drawer storage under both pilot berths, for ample storage. The dinette has two leaves and can accommodate 4-6 guests for dinner.
Directly aft of the main salon and to port at the bottom of the companionway, is the galley which is equipped with a Seaward S.S. 3-burner gimbaled propane stove with oven, large icebox with Norcold Frig and Adler Barbour Holding Plate, drawers and deep stainless steel sink with pressure hot and cold water and manual water pump. There is built in storage for plates and cups aft and outboard AND ALL DISHES, CUPS, TABLEWARE AND UTENSILS CONVEY TO THE NEW OWNER!!!
To starboard at the base of the companionway is a generous chart table with drawers under and a slide-away navigation seat. The quarter berth area which is currently used for storage and has no cushion, could easily be converted back to the ships quarterberth, though with the pilot berths port and starboard, plus the V-berth and settees, there is really little need for additional sleeping berths.
The companionway steps provide excellent footing and are deep and wide. They are removable for engine access.
There is an abundance of natural light with four large fixed ports and main companionway hatch aft in the galley, main salon overhead hatch, and v-berth cabin overhead hatch, plus six opening Lewmar Ports with screens.
Full length overhead teak grab rails for safety whilst underway. Blue Sunbrella Covered upholstery throughout in excellent condition

The hull is hand laid solid fiberglass with longitudinal stringers. The deck is Airex cored except in areas of heavy compression where it is cored with Bruynzeel plywood.
Bulkheads are isolated from the hull with Airex and secured with heavy tabbing. External lead keel. The Le Comte is heavily constructed and has withstood the test of time. “MAGIC CARPET is a white hull with blue cove strip, red bottom and blue boot, which compliment the Blue Sunbrella Covers and Canvas.
The topsides of “MAGIC CARPET”, features a good size unobstructed deck and cabin top. Safe & secure deck work is ensured with bulwarks, heavy stanchion bases with double lifelines and teak handrails on coachroof.
The large and comfortable cockpit is self bailing with oversized scuppers, designed for heavy weather sailing and ample aft deck work area. Visibility from all positions is consistent with the proven offshore capability that the sailing world expects from a serious bluewater yacht.
