Bought new on the 2nd June 1965 by Mr & Mrs Arthorpe from JG Meakes of Marlow. Meakes made up the Burma teak superstructure and did the fitout, whilst the hull was supplied by Hitters of Holland. The Arthorpes kept her for seven years until 1972 when she was bought by Commander Derek George Harbroe Wright of Shillingford, who kept her for 15 years.
Derek and his wife, Mary, took the boat to Cap D'Adge in the South of France, where she remained for just over a decade. The current owner has Derek's very detailed log books covering the 11 years she spent in France (1975 -1986), which make for very entertaining reading.
The obituary for Derek said he was a courageous and successful commander in the Battle of the Narrow Seas and was awarded the DSC and two BARS. He also had a very impressive career in the tea trade.
Sea Saga returned to the Thames and had 3 more owners and then was bought by the current owner. The boat was in a very sorry state when purchased and the current owner took on the task of restoring her to her former glory. A lot of man hours and £12,000 later the boat was back to her original glory and started her new life on the Thames as a family cruiser and then to a successful charter boat.
With a professional write up in Motor Boats Monthly in July 2012 and all the extensive log books from Commander Derek this boat offers a whole lot of history. Our sales office can send you a full list of restoration and work carried out.
