Tirrenia II ,ex Sappho was designed by the great Frederik Shepherd who designed 84 yachts on his long career from 1890 to 1939. Many oft hem are still afloat and they show their renewed peculiarities ,like seaworthiness, elegance, extraordinary comfort of their accomodations . Generally they are also fast yachts even if not designed exclusively for racing . Shepherd lived untill he was 104 !!
The yacht was named Tirrenia II by Guido Fiorentino, president of the Regio Yacht Club Italiano in Neaples , who bought her in 1924. The club offered a challenge prize named after this yacht , the Coppa Tirrenia ,intended for the yacht that every year could demonstrate to have enjoyed the best cruise and Tirrenia II won it twice in 1927 and 1928. Among others, in the following years the price was given to Dux, Jolande, Mizar.
This amusing and lovely habit stopped with the second world war.
She belonged to the president of AIVE ( the main Italian association of Classic yachts) since 1992 to 2010 . He found her in the Caribbean sea . The carefull respectfull restoration was taken in Trieste by Cantiere Alto Adriatico under the supervision of Carlo Sciarrelli .
Since 1993 Tirrenia II took part to rather all the classic yachts meetings and races in the Med untill 2009
Built of Burma Teak planking on white english oak structures , Tirrenia is one of the very best examples of the classic british construction and one of the nicest yachts of her size
Tirrenia original accommodations and paneling are just marvelous and one of the very best of any classic yacht of her size and age.Tirrenia is one of the most originally kept classic yacht. Her new deck is in perfect shape. original plan and fittings. Rig, and sail plan restored to the original design .
Now she is stored in a shed looking for a new loving owner and it is one of the most interesting classic yacht of her size at a bargain price.
As the yacht is seized she will be auctioned with a base price of 115.000 €.
